Still worried GTA isn't suited to gaming-on-the-go? Douse those fears in petrol and torch them. Liberty City Stories delivers what fans of the series have been crying out for: total multiplayer carnage. Using the PSP's wireless trickery, up to six wannabe mobsters can do battle on the streets of Liberty City, laying down WiFi whoop-ass with an arsenal big enough to stage a South American coup. Multiplayer alone is the reason to buy this game. You get 90 unlockable characters and seven modes to play through any of the three districts - Portland, Staunton Island and Shoreside Vale. And anything you can do in GTA, you can do in multiplayer. Read on for info on all the modes.
Liberty City Survivor:
This is a basic deathmatch. You have complete freedom to go anywhere and do anything - and you have access to all the weapons and vehicles. You might want to run around spraying bullets with an AK, get on a rooftop and snipe or steal a car and run people over. Most kills win.
Protection Racket:
Destroy four limos at your opponents' base. At the start of the game, sides are drawn and a timer counts up while one side tries to destory their enemies' cars. When all vehicles have been destroyed, it switches over and the new attackers try to beat their rival's time.
Get Stretch:
Two teams each have a base with a limo. The aim is to steal your opponents' car and get it back to your base, without losing your own motor. The winner is either the first to reach a predetermined score or the one with the most motors lifted.
Tanks For The Memories:
At the start of the match, one player randomly starts in a tank. Everyone else then tries to destroy him. When the armoured vehicle is destroyed, the player who dealt the most damage to it gets control of the next tank. The winner is the one who caused the most grief.
The Hit List:
This is about endurance. One player is randomly marked and the other players try to kill him. The length of time he manages to last is called his 'survival time'. When one player gets nailed, another takes his place until everyone has been shot to pieces. Any player who successfully whacks a target gets a bonus survival time. The winner is the one with the most on the clock.
Street Rage:
It's a simple checkpoint race to the finish line, except you can perform drive-bys and switch cars. There's nothing fair about it. Dead players respawn with plenty of catching up to do and a massive grudge.
The Wedding List:
This is a Gone in 60 Seconds-style-thieving free-for-all. Players are given a list of vehicles to collect and must drive them to hidden shipping crates. It's only when you get a car that the location of its crate is revealed. Cash is then awarded depending on how smashed up the motor is on delivery. When the list is complete, the player who makes the most money is the winner.
