Forum ranks
Post: #1 - 14 Dec 2007 09:38
This is just a suggestion, but wouldn't it be better to rename Forum statuses (eg senior member) to something a bit more interesting.
E.g. New Member could be Private, Regular could be sergeant, Senior could be Lieutenant and Veteran could be Brigadier.
Of course it doesn't have to be army based, it could be anything games related. As I said, just a suggestion.

I would prefer renaming Veteran Members as "Mac Daddy"s
I shall converse with GT and make it so!

There's no way I'm being Rose and you are being The Doctor!

I remember posting in about a dozen of these topics before. Been suggested over and over, and it's not going to happen.

The amount of times this has been suggested. I think its a pretty good idea personally, as this is a game site and should be changed to something more gaming. But hey, it's not gonna change I don't think...

To be honest the probable reason that it hasn't been changed is because there's no point in changing it. No-one would benefit anything.
And besides once it was changed, everyone would want it changed to something else anyway. And it would be "well you changed it that time before so why not now?"

1.As cool jon suggested more gaming ranks would fit.
2.Then GT should be strict and say 1 rank name change so make a decision

the fact that it only takes a user to be registered for a year to become a senior member is a bit poo.
But apart from that I remember a massive thread about this, where I put all my ideas across.

All the ranking systems do is give you an indication of the person who's posted in terms of length of tenure here at GT. It helps you to identify the newcomers from the people who have been here ages.
This is good in the sense that you should (generally) be more forgiving of newcomers if they bend the rules by accident by bumping or creating lots of topics. And having their "New Member" rank underneath their avatar is a quick and handy way to identify new users before the usual barrage of abuse that would ensue had it been from a regular poster.
Moving up the ranks, the difference between regular member and senior member is just time here, whether you've posted or not, so I suppose that could be deemed as useless, but at the same time at least it does semi-reward people who have stuck with GT for 6 months.
Moving up to Veterans and you obviously have the hierarchical part kicking in here, so those members do really need some sort of distinction to make them differentiated from normal members to newcomers and regular poster alike. Its always handy knowing whos watching you

And as for the final step up - GT himself, the man that created it all probably deserves his own title, after all if it wasn't for him, we wouldn't be here now.
The ranks themselves don't need to be gaming references because it would then become far too subjective and egotistical. A new member is a new member, simple as.

Think vets should have a skull and crossbones under there avatars tbh.
And it would just add variety I think Malky, just aesthetic and all that but it does add interest.
If someone has a funny name underneath them, then newbie thinks, ooo this forum has a sense of humour, perhaps I won't just put fm related topics on here.
