First-timer Questioners [FIFA 08]

Hi all,
Just recently acquired the xbox360 core system and fifa08 game. I am somewhat a late starter in the world of video gaming and would appreciate some tips on how to tackle the most trivial issues in fifa08. My Qs are;
1. How do i retain ball possession while moving/on the run? Opposition players easily strip me of possession. I have tried random manipulation of the Left analog stick in arbitrary directions during motion. But this has proven futile.
2. How do i intercept passess made by opposition players to each other. Timed usage of the A, B and X buttons hasn't yielded much fruition in this area too.
3. How do i perform the most elementary dribbling moves solely utilizing the Left analog stick for motion, while ensuring that the ball sticks closely to my feet?
4. How do i mitigate the frequency of ball pass interception on my players and enhance the distribution of more accurate passes between players of my team? Would quick inter-player switching with the right quantum of ball-bound directional motion help achieve this?

These are but a tip of the iceberg of my myriad challenges. Any useful aid would be deeply appreciated.

Try not sprinting all the time and pass it around more.

Just run into the path of the ball. If it's just too far ahead, risk a sliding tackle (X).

3. How do i perform the most elementary dribbling moves solely utilizing the Left analog stick for motion, while ensuring that the ball sticks closely to my feet?

I think it's the right bumper which keeps the ball under very close control or you can try tricks holding the left trigger and moving the right thumbstick.

4. How do i mitigate the frequency of ball pass interception on my players and enhance the distribution of more accurate passes between players of my team? Would quick inter-player switching with the right quantum of ball-bound directional motion help achieve this?

Long balls are only good if you have quite a few players up-field so I recommend switching the play (crossing the ball left and right from the player's view).

I've picked up my own style of play and it's different from most people I've played online. Just play through Manager Mode and you'll easily pick up.

Hi Endy, and welcome to GT!

As Wriggy says the first thing you have to get out of the habit of in Fifa games is holding down the "Run" button/trigger constantly.

Whilst its natural to want to move the ball around as quickly as possible all of the time, EA stop you doing this by making the players less responsive to moving/turning/passing/shooting etc whilst running. A good tactic is to use "Run" frequently but when players are closing you down or you want to shoot, stop running and then perform the action, you'll find this much more wieldy than running all of the time. Plus your players wont be as tired!

Also just keep practicing, you'll find out which methods work for you in getting round players/winning the ball etc by playing a season or two on Amateur mode. Then obviously up the difficulty when you need to.

If you're still stuck, then give us a shout, but you'll probably find that you'll develop you're own style of playing the game anyway.

I have been playing FiFa )8 now for a few months and i have a frustrating issue with my keeper,

usually when im defending a ball anywhere on the pitch the keeper seems to decide to come out and help defend miles from goal, then if the attacking team have the ball they tend to long kick the bloody thing in.. is there anyway i can stop my keeper coming out randomly or is it something im doing...

i would be greatfull for any help here

make sure your not pressing the Y button as this causes your keeper to rush to the ball
