Right, this is doing my head in a little.

I want to buy a Dolby 5.1 system (preferably a dvd home cinema system) and need some information on connectivity with my 360.

Does anyone out there have a 5.1 set-up? If so could you point me in the direction what compatibility is needed?

I really wanna buy one but don't want to waste my money if I can't have the 5.1 through my 360.

Thanks!!

I may be wrong, but I think the speaker system would connect to the TV, not the 360.

This is true if you have a high-def telly, if your telly is old school hook the red & white sound cabled to the surround sound system & the yellow vid cable to the t.v. You might want to buy two extension cables for the sound. The 360 cable can be butchered apart & re-wrapped to extend the reach but unless your confident in your butchering abilities I wouldn't recommend it.

...my surround system only has a scart and aeriel socket at the back.

...the mystery of how to do it continues!

...thanks for that.
I ended up just going into my local Maplin and the guy there sorted me out a scart adapter to split my 360's sound cables into my 5.1 system, all for the good price of £13.
....All I have to do now try not to utterly sh*t myself everytime I hear gunfire on COD4!!

Cheers

The 360 passes 5.1 audio out through the optical toslink. So, any dolby digital decoder with an optical input will be fine.

I don't have a HDMI equipped Xbox. Presumably if you bought a HDMI equipped amp/decoder that'd work too. Check on that first though.

Edit: I didn't notice any other responses before posting this.
