For those of you who just can't get enough of reading columns by journalists that slate game hardware and software, without clearly having any clue about what they're talking about...

Here's something else to read and wonder - what bloody planet do you live on?

DS is Toxic Drug

You'd think someone who works for the Daily Mail might be able to stretch to a DS each perhaps?

Good for a laugh though.

Silly bint!

It was eight in the morning. No one had eaten breakfast. The curtains had not been opened. The beds had not been made. The dog had not been walked. Our habitual regime of a ten-minute morning music practice had been abandoned.

how much does she expect to be done before 8 in the moning??

Hand over the Nintendo and without any effort, you have a window of about two hours of peace, with your child doing something quietly constructive.
Except, it's not. What is constructive about playing football on a tiny screen, or washing a virtual dog, or watching a hideous pink pony trot around a pink palace decorated with shells?

she asks for a bit of quiet then complains when she gets it

Our Nintendo had taken the guise of a small but toxic drug which, little by little, was poisoning my children.

When they had had their fix, they were even more frustrated and discontented than before.

come now woman, nintendo a drug lmao, it isnt that addicitive. drugs are addictive, nintendos are fun

I love the way they keep mentioning that the game called her "fat". I haven't played it, but I'm 99% sure it would use the word "Overweight". Anyone that confuses "Overweight" with "fat" deserves to be ridiculed.

From the comments on the Mail site:
[Quote]Elizabeth, Grantham UK:
Having played Wii Fit with my own children I know it does not use the terminology FAT. You are categorised as either underweight, ideal, overweight or obese. As we all know BMI is not an exact science and should be used as a rough guide not gospel.

So yes, it doesn't say fat. Media overblowing things as per usual.

The BBC have jumped on the bandwagon today!

Stupid Article

Some of the quotes in that link prove that most 9-10 year olds are more intelligent than your average journalist.

Am I right in saying that doctors use the BMI index as a way of telling if you are a decent weight?

Er well sort of. Its widely accepted as an inncaurate measurement of obesity because it doesn't measure muscle percentage or anything like that. So whilst you may see it in a doctor's waiting room on a chart and whilst they may mention it in a consultation, if its clear that you are not overwieght, but your BMI is high, then I seriously doubt a doctor would show any concern for your weight.

But then I suppose for the vast majority of people, it would probably be a fairly accurate indication.

Well yes. And thats why its used in the game. I just can't believe people are taking it as gospel though, when it clearly is meant as entertainment.

If at the same time it encourages some overweight people to lose a few pounds, then that can't be a bad thing.

Could possibly be used as an incentive to play the game more if it says your overweight.
