Just in case it's of interest I've been managing Man U for ages and am now in 2012/13. We're top of the Premiership (just ahead of Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea).
We just beat Leeds 3 - 0 away. David Beckham (aged 37!) came on as a sub. --- for Leeds, of course.
My team (with their ratings) was:
Timo Hildebrand 8
John Heitinga 8
Nigel de Jong 7
Hartmann 8
Busch 8
Ronaldo 10
Downing 8
Pennant 8
van der Vaart 7
Febian Brandy 10
Rooney 8

Subs
Collins (GK - not used)
Lange
Williams
Paulista (Brazilian striker I'm trying to offload)
Zander Diamond

Fernando Torres has been out for about 5 months with a spinal injury (ouch!) but we've done OK as Brandy is now a full England international. Rooney has scored about 35 goals so far this season.
I was interested to see that Alex F is a 'keen admirer' of Fernando. Perhaps he's been playing the game.

thanks! I must try that. The trouble with a big squad is that half of them are annoyed at not playing more. And if you have a small squad you suddenly find they've all twisted a knee.

BTW we won the Premiership and the Champions cup!! Our goal difference was almost 100+ !!

that tip worked very well - I advertised van der Vaart for £0 and got two offers for £15m (but I decided not to sell!).
It's now July 2014. I won the Premiership, the League Cup and the FA Cup but unfortunately only reached the quarter-final of the Champions Cup - mainly due to an incredible no. of injuries. I think I had about 10 players out of action at one point and half the rest were 'in need of a rest'! About six of the players were in need of surgery to deal with long-term injuries and are now in rehab for several months.
A manager's lot is not an easy one!!!

I'm not doing so well in 2014 - 15. Thrashed Newcastle United 10 - 0 (scorers: Fernando Torres 2, Diego 1, Ronaldo 1, Rooney 4, Daniel Sad Costa Pereira 1, Giovanni Torre 1) But then lost my next two matches so I'm only 3rd after about 10 matches. Torres is out for four months with a fractured skull
Some of the team are already 'in need of a rest' which may be a reflection of their age (Downing is 30 now and Ronaldo 29). But we beat Man City 6 - 3 away so it can't be all bad.

what's your game status after that and how many weeks/months does it say you've spent on it?

ronaldo is worth £25.5 (aged 30) and Downing is worth c£12 and plays for Liverpool.
I've just been sacked by man Utd. (not getting on with the players). It seems a bit rough as I'm top of the Hall of Fame and have just won the League Cup. We just beat Celtic 4 - 0 away in the quarter final of the Champions Cup and are lying 4th in the Premiership. Unfortunately there's no appeal
