Ok today i went into my local gamestation in search of a new game and then burnout: Revenge caught my eye but i was £7.99 pre-owned but then u asked for a brand new copy and it was only £4.99

a bargain or what? I mean why was the Pre-owned copy more expensive than a brand new copy?

There was this one lady and she was trying to buy gin
and there was this other lady and she was trying to sell gin
And in the end it worked out good for the both of them.

its where the pre-owned game has been there longer, an the price on the new copy has just kept droppin an they havnt realised to change the price of the pre-owned version

The reason this happens is because Gamestation buy games from the public and sell them for profit, so if they buy it off you for a fiver they cant sell it for £4.99.
New games on the other hand are bought in bulk from the distributors. When distributors want to get rid of excess stock they reduce the price which is passed onto the customers.
So basically in this case Gamestation have a whole pile of new copies of Burnout Revenge that they can sell cheap, when these are gone the price will return to normal.

then how do the distributors make their money if they have to drop the price?
Post: #7 - 19 Jun 2006 15:11
because the distributors buy it cheap aswell, but still make a profit

Ironically retailers make most of their money on older games as there is a bigger profit margin. On a typical new PS2 game, if they sell it for under £30 they will be making £1 to £2 profit. Where as on older games they can make alot more.

I get the whole why the pre-owned copy is more expensive but still burnout: revenge is the newest title of the burnout series... Why so cheap? I was expecting it to be at least £14.99 or something around that price...
