I am new to the game and I don't know how to get past them and to the other side. Can anyone help me?

I've never played this game myself but try and press B or B + Up and see if that works...

In fact, I'm reading some information about the game and it seems that you need to unlock a 'Special Ability'. Once you have aquired this press Up and L, this will let you jump really high.
