yoz all. this is a simple guide that I have written based on my years of playing countless versions of CM. This guide is based on the newest version v5.02 released at www.championshipmanager.co.uk.
==========================

BACKGROUND

I am a coach that have earned 5 EPL, 3 La Liga, and 6 Serie A titles, excluding numerous European Champions Cup, Super Cup. I have coached Arsenal, Valencia, Werder Bremen, Lazio before, with much success.

==========================
SHOPPING LIST

every CM5 guide got to have a shopping list and here's my choice.
LEGEND: cheap (C) affordable (A) expensive (E) all prices are judged relatively on value for stats.
however, due to the money cheat, you might consider only buying the best. that's if you cheat.

Hans Jorg (bayer04 (C))
Warmuz (dortmund (C))
Victor Valdes (barcelona (A))

=======================
5 TRAINING TIPS

1. sack training staff that is lousy in attributes. Go to staff search and view under attributes, to sign those people that are talented in coaching. Go for unproven status, as they're more likely to accept your approach.

2. always have good scouts working for you. I hire around 4-5 scouts in a club to scout for talented oppostions and spy on next opposition (which comes handy) always look for scouts with 100 in SOA and SOP. they're plentiful and cheap to sign but their help goes a long way.

3. Abandon the first-team training plan. Work out your plan under create a plan function. Train attributes according to position by creating different plans for different position. For example, for defenders, I have intensive trainings on defensive, tackling, set pieces, and fitness, with medium in tactical, passing and light in pratice match.

4. When players are facing injury, put them under the injury recovery training plan. Do remember to switch them back to appropriate training plans once they recovered.

5. It is important to work with physios to check on the fitness of a squad. A fit squad can last the whole 90 minutes without fizzling off and tends to produce better results.
=================
TACTICS ROOM

1. It is particularly useful to send a scout to spy on next opposition. It provides information on opposition tactical plan and players, making your job easier.

2. Always formulate a tactic that includes the most talented players in your squad. It's ok to build a squad around a particularly valuable player, but it would pose a problem should the player suffer an injury, which could inhibit team performance.

3. Set your penalty takers and throw-in preference. A team that doesn't score a penaty doesn't deserve to win. Spot your best penalty taker during friendly and assign them in the penalty duty list. Normally, I would prefer fullbacks to do the throw-in task as they're closer to the sidelines, and their throw-in accuracy attribute is generally higher.

4. Set individual instructions to maximise game plan. DM could be instructed to be more defensive, while AM could be instructed to run with balls or even attempt long shots.

5. During matches, do constantly check conditions and player ratings to replace inefficient players.

=====================
VARIOUS CHEATS AND BUGS

vaguely described as I strongly discourage cheating. it's unfair.

1. restart cheat.

save game before every match. if you lose the match, press ctrl + alt + del and end cm5.exe under process.
reboot cm5 again to resume game without loss.

2. money cheat (available in v5.02)

this is often repeated, but here goes: get someone interested in your player. offer to club and set to 90m transfer fee, and non-negotiable deal.

3. get that player cheat

quit your job. go to the club, and set low transfer fee. get back your job and make your purchase.

any questions? do feel free to post here for discussion.
