There is a massive flaw in Braniac: Science abuse, the accuracy and reliablility, for example how to win at Laser Quest.
They asked kids how to win, who replied with the following;
1.Sit at a wall with your knees covering the front sensors, this means that both your front and back sensors are covered.
2. Cover the sensors with sticky tape, thus blocking the sensors.
3. Take a laserpen in, this means two lasers to get people out with.
no. 1 is an illegal move, sitting is both cheating AND against health and safety laws, i shouldnt have to explain why H+S jumped at this oppertunity to restrict us a little more.
no.2 does work, but it is cheating and really irritates people who come to play on a regular basis and actually have some skill.
no.3 doesn't work at all, the laser is nothing but a guide for aiming. What actually gets you out is IR(Infra-Red), this is the same thing as TV remote controls use to comunicate with you TV. The laser pen will do absoutely zilch except sap your concentration and so actually reduce your score
The real way to win;
-dont cheat, cheating is for people who wold not otherwise have the ability to win.
-find a semi-pro laserquestor, look for people who are members, you can tell them by the fact that they have their own tags(but not all members are good). copy what they do.
-practice, actually get good enough so that you can beat random members of the public
-don't get discouraged if you can't kill people very easily or die every time someone so much as looks at you. Pack variance can't be stopped, some sensors work better or worse than others, as do the IR and Laser emitters.
-don't be a cocky winner or a sore loser, you should know what it feels like if you lose because of dodgy kit and you should set a good example. Being a sore loser makes you look foolish.

So I take it you like Laser Quest then? And you play a lot?
If you do then you'll know not to take it all that seriously, whilst we all want to win, its just a bit of fun.
What Brainiac xxx abuse is all about is applying science to wacky situations. Its not exactly going to start a revolution of young kids going to laserquest with laser pens and tape is it? No.
Its like when they investigate the best was to pull a Christmas Cracker or how to win at conkers, its not advocating cheating per se, its just applying science to such situations.
And besides if Hammond or Tickle just stood there and said "If you want to be good at laser quest, then I've got a secret for you. Practice! Next week we'll be looking at the necessity of the national speed limit and the rationale for ear muffs" it would be a naff show. People don't watch it for the moral high ground, they watch it for entertainment value.
