i need help with red 'splats'

in my town i find strange large red objects that look like a 'splat' as if a red ball has been squashed on the floor. i can't dig it up or do anything to/with it . however i reckon it's a fly's nest as they always seem to be near it . please can someone tell me what it is and wether i can get rid of it . if anyone needs any animal crossing help come to me as i am quite experienced
