Yeah, some people grow a bond with thier Avatar. Its mainly like the picture everyone recognises you with. I went to change this a while back, did so, but it didnt feel....like me, so I changed it back. I feel its what everyone recognises me as and knows me as, much like paddyboy was that guy with the hat and the moon behind him, he had that piccy for ages.
I dunno, I reckon people grow used to the Avatar as to recognise who is who, and not the name to be quite honest.

In some cases however, like you crunch (for example, im not picking on you), you havent kept an avatar solid for a while, so anytime you change yours, we need to try to remember who you are. Thats why I know you are crunch, cause I have to check all the time when you change it. Its one of these things, people get used to you and your avatar, if you change it, peoples sumtimes get confused. Like CrazyD, hes had a big purple hippo for god knows how long...<_<
