Terminator Dawn Of Fate was another of my free rentals, its the second time I've got it out now after it lay unused the first time (due to Christmas games) but this time I vowed to play it more, and I'm pretty glad I did.
The game for me couldn't be played to the max, the sound wasn't working leaving me with silent game play and cut scenes, and not only that but the telly my PS2 is connected to isn't exactly huge...
The game is great considering its free, and not many people seem to play or know of this game, so I'm here to tell you about it.
Graphics 5/10
There seems to be no real high quality graphics here, shoot a robot and its arm might come off or it'll fall over then regain balance by forcing its body upright but that’s about the best it gets. It’s also quite hard to even see your screen at times leaving you with a view of your character standing in total darkness. There’s enough detail though for an old game, especially as most of it can't be seen and everything gets blown up anyway...
Camera is pretty annoying, it moves around you as you walk rather than you having control which I've never liked in games but at least they give you a half decent angle to work from This only causes problems when you're stuck in a dark corner surrounded by robots who keep knocking you over while you’re unarmed, but that’s pretty rare anyway.
Game Play 7/10
The game basically follows the same pattern for most of the first levels, lead your companion to safety or keep the robots away while he plants explosives is the main theme here. There are robots everywhere; the first level is pretty empty, filled only with injured people trying to keep warm and the odd robot here and there to introduce you slowly. Level 2 is basically backtracking where you just came from and blowing up hundreds of robots along the way. Level 3 is the same except there involves a couple of those big spaceship thingies to blow to bits with a minigun. The level is finished with a tank and yet more robots, which you must distract, while your companion plants explosives, the take your own explosives and blow the tank's tracks to bits!
I haven't got much further into level 4, but I've seen the new threat, robots continuously spawning via teleport, leaving you stuck in a room filled with the things, fun eh...
Storyline 7/10
Play in the future, the future predicted in the films, a future where mankind is a small group of people stuck in a world full of robots sent by the legendary Skynet. Skynet have attempted to destroy mankind many times before, but they were not expecting for the humans to fight back, now their latest invention, a time machine, is being sent back to the eighties to destroy the mother of the one guy who can stop the robots (aka the kid from the film). Not only that but now Tech Com are discovering that some of their soldiers are actually robots sent to spy on them.
This is a pretty good storyline in my opinion, but playing as different characters can drag a bit, for example, you spend a level escaping from a hotel, and then watch your character tell someone to blow the hotel up, then you play as the other guy. This obviously means that you must go all the way back in the direction you came...
Replay Factor 3/10
Although its pretty good to play its got nothing that makes me wanna keep playing or complete it, so I guess playing the game again is out of the question.
Worth It?
That all depends, if you're a fan of the Terminator films then this is a great addition as then next part of the story. On the other hand I recommend you rent it before you go throwing your money around, since I'm renting it free remember...
