Resident Evil 4 is probably one of the best games I have played in years! Nuff said! What’s that you say? I didn’t say enough? You want me to give you a detailed description of what actually makes this game so awe inspiringly good? It will be my pleasure!

Leon Kennedy, an ex-cop that was involved in the incident with Racoon City, has received an order from the president to rescue his daughter- who is being held captive by some strange kind of cult. When every day villagers start lashing out on him mindlessly, he instantly knows something fishy is going on. Upon later travel, he finds one of the Spanish cops tied to a pole in a blazing fire. If it were real life then, at this point, many of us would turn back want to get as far away from the place as we possibly could! Leon, however, did not let any of this stop him. Instead, he simply pressed onwards and did what he had to do to survive. This develops one of the most heroic character roles of all time, automatically giving the player even more incentive to finding president’s kidnapped child.

There are many ways to describe how wonderful the graphics are, but trying to think of them all would only waste the majority of your life. Some of which could simply be spent gawking at the lovely realism of the explosions- or laughing at the sight of the unsurprisingly convincing blood spurting out of a villager’s head after you blow it right off. This game shows off some of the greatest visuals to be seen on any system, with some of the most realistic textures and effects around so far. This is one of the major reasons for the game’s spine-tingling atmosphere.

Another thing that adds to the game’s atmosphere is the sound and music. You will constantly get goose bumps the moment you hear the gusty winds outside, and you will always know that something terrible is going to be waiting for you beyond the nice, calm areas. The thrilling, yet eerie, music will forever keep you on your toes. The foreign screaming villagers and chainsaw rattling bag heads also do a good job of sending chills down your spine, which makes their cries of pain all the more satisfying. There will more than likely be moments when sudden sounds make you jump right out of your seat, but you will always find yourself going back for more.

The relentless action ensures that the player is always active and never will even consider putting the controller down for a second. Players will not rest until every last Ganados(the effects of the unwilling slaves, under the control of this mysterious “Lord Saddler”) around you is finally put out of their misery. The only actual time that the action slows down its pace, apart from the travelling merchants and typewriters(which are used as save spots), is where puzzles are concerned. These puzzles are classic style sorting puzzles, where one must sort out an order or movement of something in order to reveal a new path. Eventually, the player will have look out for Ashley, the girl you were searching for from the start, and make sure she is not harmed or taken away again. You will also have a chance to take control of the defenceless damsel herself(which means that you will have to be even more careful), to find a key to another area in the castle.

Should you buy this game then, you ask? Really, you might as well be asking if Jack Thompson is preparing for another case against video games, or if sugar is sweet. The answer to all of those questions is a definite yes. Do not let this opportunity pass you buy! Resident Evil 4 is as essential a purchase as food. Buy it while you still can!
