Yes, I know I have written a review Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories, but I feel that this game is so good that it deserves a review itself. We all know about Square’s bold decision to work alongside with Disney by now. We also all know about Disney’s less successful past when it comes to producing games entirely based on their many popular movies. Now all there is to know is whether or not you should give Disney another chance, and why. It is already obvious what I think about the game, so here I will tell you why you should, no, MUST buy this game!

Many stories and games at today’s day and age usually see an every day character with big hopes and dreams- which always somehow manage to come true. This game’s story, of course, is no different. Sora, a young teenage lad with a traditional spiky Japanese hair style, and his two friends- Riku and Kairi- long to leave their home island and traverse many different worlds to witness new and interesting sights. Soon, Sora discovers that he is actually the Keyblade master and must seal the many key holes of the Disney worlds, in order to save his friends- go figure. However, he is not the only one with a crises- That’s where the wacky Disney pair come in! King Mickey is also missing, and gives Donald and Goofy an order to search for the Keyblade master. After they have all finally introduced each other, the three of them set off to find their friends.

Just so it would not be like Square have tried have taken full responsibility for Disney’s own ideas, the Disney worlds and situations are just like they were on the big screen. Those of you that have watched some of the movies(and let’s face it, we all have seen some of them at some points of our lives) will be familiar with the goings on of the several colourful worlds. So, for many of us, experiencing those occurrences first hand will be like a breath of fresh air. When else could one have the opportunity to meet up with some of their favourite Disney characters? Fly like the great Peter Pan? Swim under the sea alongside a cute mermaid and her little fish friends?

This game resembles the fantastic 3D Zelda games in many ways. The most obvious being the crazy dress code and the fact that Sora was chosen by a great blade to help him fight off evil. Another easy to spot similarity is the game’s hack and slash-style battle system. Just think of a mixture of Zelda’s and Final Fantasy’s battle systems and you will get this real time work of art. From every fallen foe, you can collect little items(such as money or health balls) and you also gain more experience points. In battle, players can use all the same magic that they did in the Final Fantasy’s. There is even the chance to summon many random Disney characters- however, both of Sora’s allies must be conscious first. Not only magic, but they can also use many other magic consuming special attacks(such as the ability to throw the Keyblade at your opponents).

In essence, the game is a platformer. Although, looking past the platform to platform exterior, it is a true Role Playing Game. Fans of the Final Fantasy series will receive a treat as quite a few characters from the Final Fantasy series will make an entrance in Kingdom Hearts(and Kingdom Hearts 2)-such as Cloud and Squall “Leon” Leonheart. There is also a chance to face Sephiroth as young Sora. If you are looking for a great RPG for the PS2 that will entertain you throughout, this is the one!
