Blimey,
how could you even look at this game and not pick it up to look at the back cover. "Snake Eater" that's a name that is bound to gather some attention from any kind of gamer, hard or soft.
just the button pressing at the main menu gets you excited, its the traditional, original, different way, whereby you use Circle to confirm, and X to cancel. BRILLIANT, and then the first cutscene just shows you how much time and effort it took by the kojima (Hideo Kojima is the producer and director of the metal gear solid series) team to make this game. Every polygon and map is perfectly placed and the voices match the animation to a dime.
im gonna run out of adjectives by the time i finish this review, but i can definitely say FANTASTIC!
As an extra bit of mystery, at the beginning of the game, it gives you the option to select from one of three options, "i like Metal Gear Solid 1", "i like Metal Gear Solid 2" or "i am playing the Metal Gear Solid series for the first time" selecting the "i like Metal Gear Solid 2" option gives you the mask camoflage of an old character from Metal Gear Solid 2's face, that character is Ryden, this gives the game the edge above all others for originality, mystery, and just plain wierdness!
TERRIFIC
An excellent game deserves an excellent soundtrack, the original theme of "snake eater" is by far a hit already, and this is BEFORE the main menu with the different array of button pressing! you can buy the metal gear solid 3 soundtrack for cheap, and again, as a bit of mystery, it comes with extra hidden camoflages with it and you can load it on to your system, you can also download these extra camoflages from the internet if you have a network adapter. there are even songs on the CD! about 7 or 8 more if i am not mistaken
now, onto the game as we have gotten the basics out of the way; well, again, its ABSOLUTELY MIND BLOWING! with the graphics and the sound, and the gunplay, and the gameplay and the movement, and the animation. fantastic. one of the downfalls is the com link (the means of communication with Snake (main Character) and the guys back at the Head Quarters, its slow and most of the time, boring to sit through and listen, but the guys at Kojima Enterprises or wherever they work thought of that too, as in the previous metal gear solid games.
