Unreal tournament is the ultimate first person shooter tournament game. the mouse is your aiming, direction keys or a w d s are your movement keys, scroll is change weapons and click in scroll for zoom. space bar is jump enter is action/enter vehicles. you can change the controls but thats how i like them. you compete in various game modes like deathmatch, team deathmatch, capture the flag, onslaught(a cool mode where you capture power nodes and its like join the dots, once you've joined them to your enemys power core in their base you can attack it), bombing run(like football but the balls in a gun), mutant(person who is mutant gets loads of powers and weapons and ammo, but there health is constantly going down, kill enemies to gain more health, you can only score points while your the mutant. if someone kills the mutant they are the new mutant), last man standing, assault(recreate famous missions in the unreal tournament world, you do stuff like pressing switches and you must be quicker than opposing team) etc. in the single player game you make your own team from a pool or contestants and pay them, pay for their injuries etc. you progressive through progressively harder matches until its a final showdown between yourself and another champion. the gameplay can be very very hard and challenging most of the time, and you have to play a lot to get any good which is annoying. playing a really long match, then having to restart it is very annoying and frustrating. when the game is at its best its very good, especially online. online play is this games main function as the genre is made not to be played alone but with mates and others around the world. u just need a fast internet connection, lagging in multiplayer games can be really annoying and mess up the whole atmosphere. the game can be addicting the first 5 months, but i am seriously bored with it now. i havnt played with it for a long time and seriously dont want to. i feel it takes to long and i dont get as much satisfaction from it as i used to. im sure its not like this for practically everyone else, my friend loves it to bits, but i am annoyed with it.
when you are playing and enjoying it, its excellent. it handles like a really good 'Halo'. there are eight vehicles in the game, two of which you can only use in one or two assault missions.
goliath is a big two seater tank, hellbender is like a iron plated warthog with two gunners, manta is a really cool ghost like vehicle and you can cut peoples heads off, scorpion looks like a warthog but its one seather and has a wierd gun and huge blades attached, raptor is a proper flight plane with missiles and lasers, a leviathan(ohh i love these!) is a really slow ultrap powerful really really well armoured(i meen really, 10 times the ammount of health as a tank) with homing missiles, a huge laser death ray that has a huge field of attack, and 4 personal turrets, and theres two spacefighters only available in like two space missions. one space mission is really good you attack a big ship then land in it and blow it up. there are loads of guns in the game and a handfull of turrets as well.so the game dusnt last froever in terms of attention span, although you can never really complete the game. huge replay value and you can download a demo from the unreal tournament website for free. i encourage doing this, and if ur an online multiplayer freak, getting the game, u'll most likely spend hours and hours on it. the graphics are ok and the sound is good also.
