Star wars battlefront one i think(i bet im gonna get a lot of complaints about this) is better than star wars battlefront number two. maybe just for the computer but i've received a load of rubbish and errors and lag from number two, unlike the smooth, excellent frame rate number one delivers spectacularly from start to finish. it has such solid, addicting gameplay that is easy to pick up and play. i remember some good times from this game...
first of all, the graphics are good, a step up from most star wars games. i've seen a lot of graphical flaws from number two, not as many from the first installment. the rhen var levels look great with excellent ice textures on the walls and stuff. on the naboo plains level you start to feel like your really on a real battlefield righting alongside fellow troops. starting though. your skill is blown out of proportion, your a super soldier and you know what would make it really good, a full blown charge on a plains level like in attack of the clones on geonosis. all running in one group against the other army against the other would be thrilling. instead theres about twenty troops on the battlefield at one time and your all spread out, often alone. the AI of the troops is unbelievably terrible. your shooting a continious stream of bullets from your blaster rifle through a window at the same place, and what does the computer on your team do? run straight into it. you then get discredited for a 'team kill'.
the AI have no aiming, and fire very very slowly, and infrequantly. all they do is take health and ammo thats been dropped on the floor that you really need, and get shot. iv seen troops face the wall and throw a thermal detonater, killing himself, other teamates and you. if an enemy is on the other side of the wall, they shoot the wall. dont get me wrong, the rest is quite good, the AI is no where near as terrible as in number two.
there are some good sound effects in the game, although the lines repeated by your comrades can get annoying, like in number two, the troops seem absolutly convinced theyre being flanked when there is no enemies about or your attacking them head on. it can get very annoying and can sometimes feel that the developers included that sound bit just to look cool, for little kids to go, wow, theyre flanking, must be cool.
there are some classic star wars scenes, like snowspeeders on hoth, or driving ATATs(which, may i add, is slow and incredibly tedious), attacking shiel generators and bunkers, fighting on geonosis etc. you can fight on the moon of endor, hoth, rhen var, tatioone, kamino, geonosis, yavin 4, bespin and a few more. there is usually about two arenas per planet. there is a conquest mode, which is quite good. you attack planets, gaining them and gaining bonuses, like sabotage(doing damage to all enemy vehicles) or garrison(which doesnt seem to work), elite training(ups allys aiming, what a waste). this brings me on to my next point, vehicles. there are plenty of vehicles, fast ones like speeder bikes or STAPs(they are actually pretty slow), other ones like ATATs and the IFT-X(which is actually a cheap rip off of the jedi tank) and big ones like ATATs, ATTEs and stuff. These can be fun to use, very hard to destroy if an enemys in them(theyre really stupid in them though) and they look good. there are multiple seats in most vehicles which is a good point(theyve taken most of the out for number two) but you cant run over people with them. well sometimes it kills them sometimes it doesnt.
this game is best played online, with people with proper brains. you can get computer controlled jedi as a bonus, who you cant kill. its really funny shooting them and i have managed to kill them once or twice. classic gaming moments like shooting rockets at mace windu on naboo sending him flying into water, killing him. oh yeah i find the rockets have absolutly no splash damage making them terrible weapons. this game is quite good, but understand its best played online with a good internet connection.
