I first played star wars galactic battlegrounds it was round a friends house who lives far away. but every time i looked forward to playin it. being a big star wars fan that i am it had a lot of cool stuff, and it didnt incorporate designs from other star wars stuff like lucas arts do now. its like it says, like age of empires, or command and conquer orany other like strategy game from above like, if you understand what im saying. you start off with a command centre, which you can make workers from. Workers build stuff and can harvest the resources you so sorely need throughout the game. Carbon is found in trees, food in animals or fruit bushes, nova in nova crystals and ore in ore crystal things. If they are far away from your base you can build a collection plant so you dont have to keep going back to the command centre. you can first make troop centres making troops, anti-air troops, grenadiers who are absolutly pointless, and mounted troops who are good are destroying buildings with their flame throwers. You can also buy upgrades, like a trooper recruit into a troop, or like increasing line of sight or speed and stuff. all these cost resources. you can make shipyards(hardly ever used in the missions though) and defense things like turrets, and research centres providing more to research.
Once you have enough resouces
you can upgrade to the next tech level. there are four tech level. they upgrade your buildings and give you more to build and research. you can make jedi/ sith temples to make close range troops(they arent amazing like in the films, although when you make all the costly upgrades they are very good). once you've researched particular upgrades, you can turn practically any buildind or unit. its so fun going through and enemys base with one sith master turning all there untis and buildings. you do have to charge back up though.
you have to build prefab shelters to make an extra five to your population count, do you can build more units. the max population count for this game is two hundred, but u can extend it with the add on pack: clone campaigns. Once on tech level four you can build a variety of things like heavy weapons facotrys, air ports(only anti air troops, turrets and planes can destroy these), fortresses which build bounty hunters and you factions special troop. You can build another command centre, making another base and various defensive structures like walls, improved turrets and gates and shield generators and stuff. if you give a building power by making a power core next to it, they build and research faster. shield generators need these and then they shield in a 360 circle around them(same with the power cores power giving). There is a story mode, which is quite good, has a lot of story and objectives, although can be hard at times. The teams you can be are and their special units are:
Trade federation(dont need prefab shelters)-destroyer droid
Naboo-guy on a kaadu or sumthin, has a big stick(close combat, fast)
Empire-Dark trooper
Wookies-wookie warrior(close combat wookie with two big blades. lots of health)
Gungans(dammit lol)-walking shield generator
Rebels-snowspeeder
The civilizations also have other bonuses like different researches specified for them or other, not as good units, like the empire can make a probot which is very cheap. They also excel in different areas of combat, like gungans are best at sea, rebels have best air along with royal naboo, galactic empire and trade federation have the best mechs, wookies have the best troops etc. You can build huge armies with ATATs, MTTs, jedi masters, tie fighters etc. The only problem with this is you can only select about twenty troops at a time, so moving lots of troops can be tedious. the big fight scenes can produce a lot of lag, but are fun to watch. The graphics, i must say, are terrible, average in some parts but not that good. the sound is good with sounds for all the animals and miltiple sounds for troops, which is quite impressive. in the normal skirmish modes you can do multiple game types like normal, protect the monument or protect your leader. in the normal game by making a monument that costs a lot and takes absolutly ages to build, you win in a time limit if its not destroyed. The best bit about the game is online in the zone, definatly. you can make your own game map using textures and triggers and loads of units. people have made there own game types like bloodfort and hitman, which are excellent to play. i recommend playing it online with a high speed connection, its definatly a lot better online. the main game can get boring, and i hadnt played on it for ages then i installed it round someones house and had fun. i recommend getting the expansion pack also.
