I played the original for 20 minutes on the N64. i loved the original(pikachu kicked everyones butt!unfortunatly i dont feel that way about him now:P). i had to get the original. unfortunatly, i did not(lack of money, and more importantly N64). this was a long time ago, not too long after the N64 had been released. i did, however, decide to buy the gamecube, just to get this console specific game. for those who dont know what the games about(shame on you lol), nintendo have pitted lots of there characters against each other in a huge brawl for domination. by attacking enemys, it ups the damage percentage thing, making them easier to send flying off the arena, killing them. if you get to about 90% your getting in trouble. 300% and you cant really get hit, or you will go speeding off to your death. you can use various items like bob-ombs, beam swords,various guns, capsules, fans, fire flowers, mega mushrooms, poison mushrooms, food(restores health), hammer, pokeballs(releasing loads of pokemon now, some from gold and silver) etc. there is loads of stages(about 20) to wreck havoc on, some moving as well, so u have to move with it, if you go off screen too far your dead.
the graphics are really good, and you can pause it and view different characters. the sound is excellent with player noises and a number of interesting songs.

and more i think. the best bit about the game is the most important bit: the gameplay. its just so fun and addicting and everyone(everyone) enjoys it. this game lasts about 6 months at the least(and thats the least). theres adventure mode, classic mode, and all star mode, each fun and with new ways to play. the max number of players on screen is four, although in adventure you face various little enemys, where there can be more. there are event matches(around more than one hundred), where you do special requirment missions, like starting with a higer percentage, team games, timed matches, protecting things, the list is long. there are trophies to be won(a lot, all of them have information about nintendo characters and games), and coins to gain(can be used in the gumball machine for more trophies,or to purchase extra lives in adventure classic and all star), as well as bonuses to get in the three main multiplayer modes. you can do versus mode which is standard matches, team matches, coin matches(hit opponents and they drop coins), style matches and more. you can have from two to four players, computer or human, and you can change their colours.
the game is hugely addicting and hugely popular with friends(even if they dislike nintendo, i've found ). there is an enormous ammount of replay value and once you've finished everything and got all the 250 or something trophies, you still play loads of versus matches. you get reward for playin the game with bonuses and characters, and sound checks and stuff. there are a ton of extras and things to be uncovered, and i just mean this game is the best. one of my favourite games ever, the only alernative is the original(not as good), viewtiful joe red hot rumble(not as good by quite a bit), or the new one coming out for the Wii(definatly getting that). fans of any of the nintendo franchise will definatly recognise something from this game, and its got what i love, a lot of lasting appeal and replay value. the best multiplayer(ever!) as well. this game is legendary and a die hard classic. if you've got a gamecube, a small ammount of money(i imagine the games quite cheap now) and you like good games, there should be no stopping you from getting it. get it now!
great for single player as well with lots of level of difficulty. try completing all events and classic adventure and all star on very hard, i have!!!
