Fans of Mario 64 have eagerly waited for the release of Super Mario Sunshine for a long time. The first mario game on the gamecube(except super smash bros melee), mario and peach have decided to take a holiday to isle delfino. Upon arriving they find it covered in a paint grafiti like substance. Monsters and pirahna plants come out of this goo, and its driving the locals absolutly nuts. To make matters worse the shine sprites have all been stolen, making the sun a lot less brighter. The locals claim they saw the culprit, Mario. He is put in prison, but then released, but he has to clean up all the grafiti and return the shine sprites. His is given a special tool(FLUD), that he wears on his back. It can spray water, change to water hover jets, and when unlocked, a rocket boost sending you flying upwards and a turbo water jet stream, enabling you to sprint very very fast. You go to multiple places via warp pipes and other things, and do the missions there. Upon completing the missions you win a shine sprite. The more you get, the brighter the sky gets. You encounter the guilty one for the vandilising lots of times. Its a transparent like blue mario(the people are so stupid how could they mistake that for mario?) Many of the missions involve jumping around the place, walking on narrow paths and just finding the hidden sprite. You can refill your tank by finding water. Examples of the places you can go to are:
Hotel Delfino
Delfino Park(a theme park with rides you can go on!)
The beach place
The harbour
And many many more. The gameplay can be addictive, and the graphics are great. There is an incredibly smooth frame rate, and the sound is great. There can be some great, classic game moments in this game and anyone liking mario should seriously consider buying it.
One thing i found though, is that a lot of the missions usually involve at the end going into some other univers where you have to do really skillful jumps, and walking along twisting paths and stuff and you musnt fall off. These eventually take you to a shine sprite. I found these levels incredibly hard, and the music really gets on your nerves. I found they took me hours to try and get anywhere and they were so frustrating i just hate that type of game. You'd often find a life along the way so you never ran out of lives from falling down. You have to be very patient and keep your temper down, as some of these levels made me want to throw my gamecube out of the window. You need a lot of skill for practically all of these and i found after playin that same bit again and again for about one and a half hours i just turned off my gamecube. This made the game nearly impossible to complete.
Heres something that may interest you: you get to ride yoshi! yoshi can eat fruit with his big tongue, changing his colour, and he can also spit out fruit juice, a bit like the water spray. Once all the juice is gone you'l need to eat fruit to replenish it or yoshi will die(oh no!!!). Yoshi can move fast and is a great jumper. His juice can also disintegrate these weird yellow things, and theyve usually got a shine behind them. Yoshi dies when he goes in the sea though(oh no!!!).
There is more than 100 shines to find(i think), making this a long, skillful and exciting adventure. You can do all his moves like the spin jump or wall jump and there's just a lot of fun involved in the game. Its a new kind of mario game and is a great additiong to your game collection. There's quite a bit of story, but be warned, the game is very hard and very very infuriating. Most bits are not for youngish children. Apart from that, great game, can you clean up isle delfino and uncover the mysterious culprit? Its up to you to save marios vacation.
