I got mario kart super circuit with my game boy advance, as it was a game many had waited for and i knew i must get. I think this is the next mario kart game after the one of the N64. i was new to mario here, but i knew the basics of the characters. This game is like the N64 one, mabe not as good though. The graphics are not as good, but they are still good for the game boy advance, with a little tiny, weeny hint of 3-Dness. The gameplay of mario kart is loved and adored by many, although, i wasnt the best choice to appreciate it.
The drivers you can be are:
Mario
Luigi
Peach
Toad
Yoshi
Bowser
Donkey Kong
Wario
Toad and yoshi and peach are light karts, giving them higher acceleration, lower top speed and better turning. Mario and luigi are medium, giving them an all round feel. Bowser, Donkey kong and wario are heavy, which means they have higher top speed, lower acceleration and less turning. The racing is(of course, they would be foolish to change it) the same as in the other Mario Kart game(s), where you race three(maybe more unlockable) grand prix cups(mushroom, flower and star). As in most grand prixs, depending on what place you come depends on how many points you gain. There is also time attack modes, free races, and there should be, a multiplayer(only multiplayer sadly) battle mode. The ever popular baloon mode has returned, where you have three balloons and if you get attacked you lose one. When all your balloons are gone your out. I dont think there are any more different battle modes for super circuit, which is a shame. You can also play multiplayer racing, up to eight players i think, which has revolutionised multiplaer gaming for a handheld(well it was revolutionary for then :P). I remember the adverts of everyone linking up. Another added bonus is that you can play multiplayer racing with somebody else even if they dont have the mario kart super circuit game. I remember doing this many many times, and it was a great bonus. You could only be different colour yoshis though, and there was about five different tracks to choose from, but it was still great fun as mario kart should be.
For those who dont know, while racing(or balloon battling), you find item boxes, giving you items to attack or speed up. The items are green shells, which just fire forward or backward in a straight line, bouncing off walls, Red shells which home in, stars, giving you invincibility and making you faster. if someone touches you while your invincible, it hurts them. Mushrooms give you boosts, you can get one mushroom or triple mushrooms, or triple red or green shells as well as singular. Lightening bolts make everyone small and slower, except the person who used it. The spiky shells attack first place, and karts can slip on dropped banana skins(also available in long lines where you can drop multiple). Thats about all the items and they make for some hectic gameplay. As in all other mario kart games, you only get the best ones like stars or lightning bolts when you are last or near last place. This can be frustrating but is not as noticable as in mario kart double dash. This game has a lot of replay value, thus lasting a long time. The sound is good, and its a classic game, but its just not everyones thing. Racing can get a bit boring despite various traps and such in the courses(theres about fifteen courses). Courses include bowsers castle, peaches castle, mario circuit amongst others. The DS mario kart debut is better than this, not just from graphics but it also seems to go faster. This game is not as slow as double dash, which is good. If you still have a game boy advance, and your not gonna get a DS, and you dont already have this game, i highly recommend buying it as it is great fun.
