Metal gear solid 3 is a game set in the 1960’s where you relive history in the cold war era with the infamous nuclear warheads at the centre of attention. The man characters in the game are “Snake” the character who you play who is working for “FOX” a sneaking U.S. government agency similar to the FBI except FOX do their missions in a sneaking fashion finding food and drink and weapons on the site of the mission, no guns are usually allowed just tranquiliser guns. Well Snake is working for FOX in their bid to bring down “Volgin” who is in charge of a Russian group in a civil war with another Russian group similar to the United States FBI and Volgin dreams of taking over Russia and hates the Americans, while Snake’s other mission is to rescue “Sokolov” who is working on top secret nuclear machinery for Volgin and two years ago was rescued in a mission spearheaded by Zero who had to give him back to the Russians for political reasons but it is Snakes first mission to rescue Sokolov. Meanwhile, “Zero” who is the head of FOX gives Snake instructions throughout the game and is you’re “leader” along with the help of the “Para-medic” which “Para” is short for parachute medic that gives you help on treating you’re wounds and allows you to save you’re game progress. Another important character is “The Boss” who has trained and been with Snake in missions for 10 years and Snake discovers she defects to the Russian side and Volgins group and gives Volgin two gifts, two nuclear warheads and Volgin shoots one onto Russian land and people and the Russian leader suspects it was the U.S. as it was their nuclear warhead and their plane that was spotted in the skies on the radar at that time. So the U.S. president is called and given an ultimatum to find the boss, and kill Volgin in one week or it will be the start of world war 3. Then Snake has a briefing of his mission and then starts his mission and later into the mission meets “Eva” who works for the Russians and helps Snake by giving him information. Eva seems to have an attraction for Snake and for a computer mistress seems extremely hot indeed, very saucy.

That’s the story, about the game now, there are stunning graphics and fantastic gameplay although the common x button to progress is the o button in this game which I found a little weird at first but you soon get used to it. The triangle button is the action button where most of the controls of the game happen, the square button is the shooting button, and the circle button is the hand to hand combat button. There are many medical items you can have such as serum injected, used to neutralize poison from snake bites, antidote, taken orally used to neutralize ingested poison, cold medicine taken orally, used to cure colds, stomach medicine taken orally, used to cure stomach aches. To improve you’re stamina you must eat food and if you smoke on a cigar you’re stamina will go down but do not fear as it will quickly shoot back up. There are many weapons you can have in MSG3 ranging from a knife, tranquiliser gun to a RPG-7 (RPG-7). You can climb trees and this game is all about using you’re surrounding to sneak up on you’re enemies in mostly stealth like gameplay and once you get use to the gameplay it is pretty easy to use.

I recommend this game to anyone considering buying it, a top class game.
