The second the game started, it grabbed my attention, I watched as the mini-movie played out on screen, the graphics and movement of these computer animated people was amazing, but that wasn’t what I noticed at first. I was paying attention to the story… “What the…?” sounds about right, and I decided, this is going to be fun, this was going to be an interesting game. And then I was left, standing in the men’s toilets at a diner with blood stained everything and it was up to me what happened next. I had to decide, and do it quickly...

The basic story is that of Lucas Kane (the murderer), Carla Valenti (Detective), Tyler Miles (Carla’s detective partner) and Markus Kane (Lucas’ brother), though it is Lucas, in my opinion, who sees the most action. The opening scene shows a murder taking place, but this is not an ordinary murder - being that supernatural forces are in play and the murderer, is actually innocent… lost? Well, so is Lucas, he has no idea what has just happened but he does know one thing, he has to get out fast or the cops will arrest him and then he won’t be able to find out what really happened and what it all means. The title Fahrenheit is appropriate, being that a big freeze is currently happening all over New York, and very soon, the world.

As well as playing Lucas, who has to avoid being arrested whilst trying to find answers, you play as the two detectives who are trying to find him as he is the main suspect for the Diner killing… however, as things start emerging, will the detectives still think Lucas is a willing participant in the murder or will they begin to realise that the situation is becoming dire - And just what has the Indigo Child got to do with anything…?

Fahrenheit’s story is a mix of detective work, supernatural events and a little bit of love. It is one of those rare games that made me rush home from college in order to play. Not only was it fun playing it but I really enjoyed watching it, as did my parents (they made me repeat several chapters over and over again so they didn’t actually miss seeing anything, just more fun for me). The way the story unfolded was entrancing and suspenseful, and it was very similar to watching a movie or mini TV series, only you can interact with it and possibly even change the course of events.

There are several major characters in the game, four of which you get to play. The characters were intriguing and the voice actors did a good job of portraying the correct persona… but enough about that, what about the actual game play?

Well, as I have only played it on the PlayStation, that is all I can describe, but here goes - Different. Not just moving about the screen and interacting with objects, though that does come into it a fair bit. A few of my favourite parts were the major action sequences, during these parts I mainly used the analogue sticks to follow a sort of ‘Simon says’ thing on screen. There were three different levels you could set this to; Easy, Normal and Difficult. As an inexperienced console player, I first chose easy but as I progressed through the game, I found my skill level increasing, meaning I could try the harder levels.

I might not have much experience in PS2 games, but I had played computer games for quite a while and the quality of this game was really good, in fact it was great. I can’t imagine how long and hard the designers worked on it to get the graphics the way they are.

Well, play it for yourself to find out just how great this game is… I give it 10 out of 10 as it is truly the best game I have ever played (except maybe for space invaders, but you can’t beat the classics).
