Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories is one of the games, if not the game of the year in my opinion, it’s a challenging game whilst at the same time rewarding, parts of the game seem impossible to do but after a few minutes contemplation they can be accomplished in no time at all. Now for a PSP game, the graphics are outstanding up to the point that you actually forget your playing it on the PSP, there are a few minor glitches here and there but every game has them so they’re not really anything to worry about.

Now like it’s predecessors, you cannot get 100% if you use any form of cheat in the game but if your looking for a bit of fun if your bored on a rainy Sunday then just punch in a few codes and you’ll be drawn back into the gaming world; who would of thought than spawning a Tank just so you can gain a 5-star wanted level could be so uplifting…if your not into cheating full stop then there are a huge number of side missions that can be completed such as Taxi fares, putting out fires, racing against cars/bikes etc.

There are three islands, yes three, and each one holds as many tales as the last one, now as you can probably figure out you being an intellect and what not, the missions do tend to get harder as you progress further into the game, this stops the repetitiveness of missions which in turn keeps you fully focused on the game. If you want a game that’s repetitive go and buy something like Pokemon… In this version of the game, there are plenty of storylines to choose from ranging from the wacky election storyline to the interesting Salvatore storyline, as I said before, you will not be bored. Now if you’ve actually got the game, you’ll probably notice the sexual & violent moments in the game, an example which combines the two is on a mission you have to do for your mother, that’s right your actual mother, where you have to follow a butcher who dresses up as a baby, wearing a nappy who goes around picking up prostitutes to have his way with, you probably think this is a far fetched thing to be doing on a game based around the Mafia, Triads etc but it all comes into context as you progress further into the game. During your entire game you will have to be on the lookout from the Hit men that your mother sends out to hunt you down and kill you, the reason for this will become noticeable once you play through the missions. It’s basically like a bad episode of The Sopranos except this time there’s a way out…

Now Grand Theft Auto wouldn’t be complete without the weapons that it has and this edition of the series is no different, it has all the usual baseball bats, SMG’s, Sniper Rifles etc but there’s something about the Sniper Rifle that attracts me to them…BOOM HEADSHOT, I CAN DANCE ALL DAY, I CAN DANCE ALL DAY…Also the legendary drive-bys are still achievable as long as you have an SMG and a car or bike, then all you need to do is drive by a bunch of helpless civilians and pull the trigger/push the button, may seem sick to some people but it can at times be the only way out of a tricky situation. One thing I have noticed about weapons is that the prices tend to be a lot more expensive, bullets are now costing thousands of dollars and you usually end up being killed every few missions so that’s that money gone down the drain so to speak.

The thing which ticks me off with this game is that you cannot swim at all on the game, on missions I always seem to find that the easiest way out is to jump into the water and then sh*t, I’ve drowned. I’m slowly becoming accustomed to this, but on my first few hours of playing it I continued to die again and again and again. But apart from that slight bit of criticism, I still stand firm that this game is a must buy so on that bombshell I’m giving Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories a wicked 9/10.
