Do you remember those classic Worms games for the PlayStation 1 where the game would be in 2D but you would be playing the game for hours on end as it was very addictive? They also would be perfect for playing with a friend and they were also very good on there own. Well, Worms: Forts Under Siege is out and this time, it’s improved… but not in the way people wanted it to.

The obvious difference about the game is the graphics (well they have to get better). The Worms and the environments are all in 3D which makes the game look miles better than the originals. Also, some of the weapons have been improved to make the game keep its original style but also expands on that. These weapons are not normal weapons like grenades and rocket launchers, they are weapons based on different things like there is a banana bomb (a banana shaped bomb which when it explodes shoots out other banana bombs). I also like how every so often the Worms pull a face which makes the game “slightly” more funny (maybe not for the serious gamer).

Another obvious difference is the way that the game works. Instead of only being able to do battles, you can now do campaigns where you have to follow certain objectives to succeed. These can sometimes be hard to follow and lets the game down slightly but it was a nice idea so maybe for the next game they could have something slightly better.

The controls are hard to get used to and sometimes can be slightly dodgy and hard and you can’t change them which let it down big time. It’s like having “shoot”, on football games, as escape but you can get used to them.

The game does have quite a long life span but you’ll be bored of it by the time you pass the first few levels because it’s the same thing over and over again. This could be improved with a bit more variety and a little more exciting.

There is online but this doesn’t make a difference to the “badness” of the game as bad as it is. There is no one online and unless you have a friend who owns the game so you can arrange one then you won’t use it at all so there was really no need for it at all but as I played the game a year after release I can’t really say.

Overall for Worms: Fort Under Siege (PC):

Graphics: 7 – These are great graphics but nothing mind boggling.
Game Play: 7 – Runs alright but can slow down at points.
Lifespan: 6 – After the campaign it gets really boring and pointless.
Online: N/A – There is online but I don’t see the point in it unless you have a friend to play as there is absolutely no one online and I can’t really say as I said above.

Overall Score: 6/10 – Very disappointing game as the previous Worm games have been some of the best games I’ve ever played.

This game looks like it has been rushed just to be released on the date they said. Hopefully future Worms games are not rushed and are improved.

The “badness” of the game is what really made it go down in price so you can get it quite cheap which isn’t too bad but considering the game isn’t really good, may not be worth it.

This maybe quite a new game but the older ones are much better. If you really want to play a decent Worms game then I would suggest it’s time to get the PlayStation out and to go classic.
