I only have myself to blame when it comes to watching the forty dollars I forked out to buy this game seem as if I were just throwing it down a toilet drain. "Cars" was very disappointing. Not only are the graphics a bit on the poor side (as anyone could expect from a game based on a Disney/Pixar film), but it's very hard to keep your attention focused on the plot of the game. While you are able to venture around in sort of a "free-roam" environment, you find yourself "passing" the same cars on every road, a road upon which it is very hard to stay. However, if you do manage to "hit" one, you will simply pass through the car, as if it wasn't there.
Because Lightning McQueen is a racecar, he does not handle sharp or even moderate turns very well, thus, going any speed over 40 miles per hour seems impossible to handle. Although there is plenty of landscape to venture out in, there are very few missions available for you at one time, and they seem more to waste time than actually advancing the plot, which is something I still haven't figured out yet.
All in all, I guess it's safe to say that I've given up all hope on this game. I've won the first two races of the Story Mode, and that's about all I'm keen for. Granted, the Arcade and VS. modes are a little more entertaining if you're wanting to race some pals of yours, but the tracks are very short, the characters available are limited, and you can only play mini-games that you have unlocked during story mode, which as I pointed out earlier, isn't very many for me.
In Arcade Mode, you can choose either to play a mini-game, a Radiator Springs road race, or one of the many races to get you towards racing for the Piston Cup! If you really want to have a race with your friends, or even the computer Cars, the Piston Cup races would be the way to go. However, as with the rest of the game, it has it's setbacks. If you even want to be remotely challenged, you'll need to put the racing setting on Advanced or Pro. Anything other than the highest level, you'll be lapping all the other racers by two or three laps.
If you're between the ages of 6-10, or you just crave the ability to drive around without actually having to do anything, this game might possibly suit your taste. But trust me, you'll be more entertained pretending you really ARE Lightning McQueen and making up your own story line and "pretending" it into the game. However, for fans, both of Disney Movies AND racing games, don't waste your time, your money, or your brain cells.
