An easy-going, extreme sport game with lots of punch, wisecracks, and goofy characters, SSX Tricky is a purely fun experience.
You can take control of 13 amazing characters:
Eddie, Seeiah, Elise, Moby, Zoe, Luther, Psymon, Marisol, Mac, Brodi, Kaori, Marty and JP.
All the characters have their own unique looks and personalities, tricks and jokes, which are all so fun!!!
You can customize the look of your character by changing the suit he is wearing, which you unlock by completing tricks set in your trick book.
Now, your trick book is a number of tricks that you have to complete to progress to the next level in the trick book. Some will be 360 s, some a simple grab. Some more difficult combos, meaning it gets harder to unlock all the suits on offer.
You also have a number of boards to choose from. You unlock them in the World Circuit mode, where you can compete in Races and Show-Offs (more on them later)
As you complete races and show-offs, your rider ranking goes up, and with the ranking comes a board and some stat points to add to your characters. You have the options of the fast boards, for speed and races, there trick boards, obviously better for tricks but not so good for speed, and there are the average boards, the ones in the middle of the 2 types. So there are plenty of things to do and complete so the game can last for a while.
There are a number of Slopes to ride, which are as unrealistic as a fake tan!
That in my mind is a good thing (not the tan bit lol); you can adventure the completely mad and mind blowing scenes that SSX Tricky offers, plummeting 100s of feet down doing the most outrageous things in the space of time before landing. In one slope you are dropped from a Helicopter because there is no start position.
And on those tracks, you are gonna need tricks that will blow you away!!!
Some are basic grabs, spins and flips, which you can tweak by using different button combinations and linking tricks to make mad combos and start building on your adrenaline meter, which when full will give you so much joy and pleasure! The Uber tricks await you; the special and signature moves of the players are unleashed to you!!!
The insane moves are easy to pull off when in "Big Air", rather than small hops which are better for little grabs, 180s and 360s.
When pulling a Uber trick, your player will be spinning around in the most elegant, and sometimes ugly fashion (have you seen Luther?)
Now the boards you choose determine the Uber tricks on offer. Some characters are better for races, but Uber tricks are still very important. If you do 5 Uber tricks before the race ends, you will get an unlimited speed boost. (This applies to all game modes) This means you can power your way to the finish line with ease. It also means if you crash you can quickly get up to speed and hopefully regain your position.
There are 3 different modes to choose from when comes to SSX Tricky. You can:
Race - Pretty Self explanatory
Show-Off - You get as many points, by doing tricks, as you can before you reach the finish line, remember there is no rush or time limit, so take as much time as you need to get the sufficient points you can to win gold!
Time Attack - Just you, the slope, and the clock, get to the finish as quickly as possible!
You can also practice moves from the trick book, or just any moves in the Practice area, it's just a big jump with a large drop so you can get lots of air to practice those tricky tricks. I honestly don't use it that often; surely practicing on the real thing is more helpful? Though, to be fair, I found it helpful when I first started, so maybe you will.
