After playing this game on the XBOX and XBOX 360, I can compare and this may seem strange to you but I think the XBOX version is slightly better even though the graphics aren't as good. This is because the FIFA World Cup 2006 Germany game feels better as a XBOX game as it is quite slow and doesn't feel like a next generation game.
Offline the game has lots of modes to compete in including the actual point of the game (to qualify and take part in the FIFA World Cup) but there’s other things like penalty shoot outs and classic scenarios which are all fun in there own way. In Scenario mode you can recreate classic World Cup moments (including England’s World Cup victory against West Germany!) and change them. But online is completely different.
Whether you feel like playing a ranked match (a game where you try your hardest to beat your opponent and trying to go as high as you can on the Global Leaderboard) or a player match (where you can play for fun with mates or other people), it’s your choice but EA’s server isn’t the best but you can usually find a game with ease. So whether you’re the type of person who likes to play games online or offline, this game is perfect for you.
But if you’re one of those unfortunate ones not to have XBOX Live, then you can always have a few friends over to play offline which is always a great experience.
Even though the World Cup is over, it is still a very good game and it’s always nice to play as your favourite teams and to win the World Cup, right from the start.
The graphics on the game aren’t the best (compared to the 360) as some players look funny but you can make them out with ease. The game runs at a nice speed and controls are very easy. With loads of game modes you could be playing this till Christmas and this is made even better with the online and multiplayer modes.
Overall for FIFA World Cup Germany 2006 on the XBOX:
Graphics: 7 - They may not be next generation graphics but they are pretty impressive for the XBOX but nowhere near perfect.
Gameplay: 8 - The game is too slow for the 360 but seems faster on the XBOX. I don't know why but maybe because the XBOX 360 is more powerful? I don't know.
Lifespan: 8 - With online modes and lots of offline modes, you may be playing this game till FIFA 07 but it all depends on whether you are the type of person who prefers to play the game when it's "in" as the World Cup is over but if you don't mind then I would recommend it.
Online/Multiplayer: 9 - Online and Multiplayer on any football game is always fun and this is no exception.
Overall: 8 - This is one of the best football games available but I don't feel it is as good as Pro Evolution Soccer but it is much more realistic.
As I said above if you think the game is too old then just ignore it but if you don't mind playing oldish games then it is one to get especially for football fans.
If you own a XBOX and XBOX 360 and don't know what version to buy, I would recommend the XBOX as it is better than the 360 one but there are achievements to collect on the XBOX 360 version but it may not be worth paying an extra £10-20 but you can wait for FIFA 07. It’s really all on your personal choice as there are so many football games.
