LEGO, Star Wars and Gaming. Probably the world’s best combination (if you’re not me) but what I was amazed at was the first LEGO Star Wars game. LEGO Star Wars was one of the best XBOX games despite being slightly too short but now LEGO Star Wars returns to consoles in LEGO Star Wars II which is set in the original trilogy.
The game looks quite similar to the original which I felt was a shame but they still look very good and they seem a little crisper. Another thing I like is how nearly everything is destroyable as that’s what everyone does with LEGO.
Another thing about the game is, that everything is still the same just a different story and other little things which is great as you can start off, where you left off.
My favourite thing about the game is free play mode as it lets players go on a level and open up new areas. This is great fun and is also a crucial part of the game though I don’t like the idea of mixing characters before you play Free Play mode as it seems pointless as you get everything you need.
Something that wasn’t in the original LEGO Star Wars were vehicles but most of them are hard to steer which is rather disappointing. Also, I don’t find the game as funny as the original but some of the easter eggs are pretty good including The LEGO City.
Enemies can easily be defeated in one or two shots from a blaster gun and one or two hits from a lightsaber which is far too easy and even bosses take four hits which again seems far too easy but you must bare in mind the game is based for children (but we’re all someone’s children).
The achievements are also quite simple as it requires you to complete a certain amount of the game and to go on certain levels and do it undefeated which may prove a bit of a challenge but that’s what the GamerScore is supposed to do.
Overall for LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy on the XBOX 360:
Graphics: 85% - The game is presented well and a lot of the scenery actually looks like LEGO which is a great effect.
Gameplay: 77% - The game runs well and the controls are very simple. I also feel the controls are very easy to pick up.
Lifespan: 64% - The game’s lifespan is the worst thing about it because once you have completed all the levels and got all the achievements there is nothing else to do unless you play it with a friend.
Multiplayer/Online: 79% - The game has no online (apart from a few downloads from the XBOX Live Marketplace) but the multiplayer co-op is interesting especially on Free Play Mode but sometimes it can be hard working together because if one goes too far in front or is too far behind it can get confusing.
Single Player: 81% - The game isn’t too much fun on your own but it is still an alright single player game.
Sound: 68% - The sound effects aren’t brilliant and there aren’t any voices which would be nice to see apart from random noises.
Value for Money: 95% - The game’s RRP was one of the cheapest around and being such a good game it is a great deal.
Overall: 78% - LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy is an excellent game but it still lacks certain things like XBOX Live co-op, single player levels and sound effects.
Haven’t got a XBOX 360? Why not play the game on Gamecube, XBOX, PSP, PS2, GBA, DS or PC?
