Domingo (better known as Ding) Chavez makes his next generation debut in Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Vegas but will you be shooting to the shops to buy it or leaving it on the shelves?
Note: This review is of a demo downloaded from the XBOX Live Marketplace. Anything mentioned in this review may be changed or taken off before the full retail version is released.
What I Played: I played as Ding (the main character) in a mission called Dante’s Hotel and Casino where you have to take out all the men in the unfinished casino.
I loved the first two Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six games (Rainbow Six Three and Rainbow Six Three: Black Arrow) for numerous reasons. First of all was the way you had to be cautious as charging into a room and shooting numerous bullets, not hitting anybody was basically suicide so you had to be tactical and had to throw grenades into the room or get your men to clear out the room before entering. Secondly, I loved the way that you could use a variety of weapons including grenades to good use. There was no point using a grenade in the open as you would nearly always miss but it would be perfect for a room. Then there’s a load of other reasons and after playing this demo, I know they are all here.
Dante’s Hotel and Casino was probably the best level they could have picked for the demo as it requires skill, knowledge and determination. You have to slowly progress towards the top of the casino killing men and climbing ladders and then go down rafter hooks which I found amazing. You can hang upside down, command your men to go further down and everything you could think of (that would help).
Moving your men around could not be easier as all you do is press “A” to where you want them to go and they will cover at the spot which looks amazing when done properly as it really feels like a strategy game.
No Rainbow Six could be complete without the different modes. I got to try out heat sensor mode (where you can detect heat) and night vision (where you can see in the dark). Both of them were better than they were in earlier versions of the game and certainly makes the game even more realistic.
Overall for Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Vegas on the XBOX 360:
Graphics: 85% – Not amazing for a 360 game but they do look life like.
Gameplay: 93% – Rainbow Six: Vegas is so smooth and the controls are so easy to understand.
Lifespan: 91% – Online modes, achievements and the story mode should keep you busy for an awful long time.
Multi Player/Online: – N/A – Expected: 87% - Rainbow Six has always been good online and I’m hoping Vegas is no exception.
Single Player: 89% - It can get boring and slightly repetitive but it is quite good to play by yourself.
Sound: 75% - You don’t really notice the sound as you have to keep quiet but the sound effects are pretty amazing.
Controls: 95% - As I said, the controls are pretty easy to get used to and are perfect for the XBOX 360 controller except for the right thumbstick which can be a bit of a pain.
Overall: 87% - The best Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six game to date. A big improvement from Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Lockdown which I felt was a big disappointment.
I was considering getting the game (released 10th November 2006) in the future because the face mapping and online modes sound really good and the demo has made it near definite.
