I am usually skeptical when it comes to new games that get allot of hype, often they are overrated and not all that they say that they are. This game would probably be one of the few exceptions to that. While the story line is short and undoubtedly leaves you wanting more than makes up for the loss on the short story line. (Obviously not the only gears of war coming out since they totally set it up for a sequel or two). Often it is compared to Halo and Halo 2, which personally have been over-played and been worn out, and I don’t think that comparison does this game justice. The third person action and the amount of team co-operation are just a few aspects of this game that push it over the edge of "great game territory". I've had my fair share of late nights playing both co-op in campaign and rocking some noob face in the intense Warzone or Execution scenario in Versus. I cant even begin to start on the graphics, it helps because I am able to play my XBOX 360 on a 56" Hi-Def television, but even without that the graphics are amazing, the cinematics are ridiculous and aren’t very hard to watch over and over again. I will admit that the difficulty level is pretty high and that often you are forced to ask a friend to join your game so that you can get past a certain part. The replay-ability of GoW is definitely just one of the reasons to buy this game, I beat the game on the easiest difficulty in about 5 hours, but I wasn’t satisfied and immediately jumped right back in on the next hardest difficulty because the game was just that good. The torque bow, a highly explosive weapon that when charged can be stuck into the enemy, is like a grenade on a stick which personally is VERY fun to play with, and the inclusion of the Lancer, or the basic machine gun takes the game to the next level, obviously not made for children, if you use the melee attack with the Lancer it revs up the bayonet like chainsaw on the end of it and you can cut down enemies instantly, definitely fun to do in-game but even more fun to sneak up on an unsuspecting member of the opposite team while playing online. While playing the campaign you just get sucked in you don’t want to stop playing, to be honest it’s down right scary at some parts. They throw you right into the action from the very beginning, towards the end of Act 1 is when it really gets fun though, there you get your first encounter with a Berserker, and man does it get your heart racing. I was scared, I'm not afraid to say that I was SCARED! it was probably one of the most intense moments I have ever experienced while playing a video game, unlike most shooters this game features great boss battles that are challenging and make you use your wit as you try and figure the best weapon combination, or some outrageous strategy to take him/her down. Also spread through out the expansive maps are CoG tags, the equivalent of our militaries dog tags, there are 30 in all and it has been a task trying to track these bad boys down. I believe I am up to twenty-eight, but you may have to check the Cheat section to find out where those are. Obviously I am not about to spoil the game, not that it would take out any of the fun, because that is pretty much impossible. For its great use of co-operative game play and how deeply engulfed you get as you transgress through each stage, I highly recommend purchasing if at least not renting Gears of War.
