Tomb Raider Chronicles (PC)

Lara Croft, introduced to a highly eager crowd of men (and few women) in 1996, has proved to be one of the most commercially successful video game icons in recent history; perhaps due to her invaluable assets, some might say. After the first instalment of the series, Core Design managed to develop a further four sequels in the series over the next five years; an incredible development achievement. That brings us to Tomb Raider 5, or Tomb Raider Chronicles PC on PC.

As you would usually expect from games converted to PC, there is a significant improvement in the visual quality of Tomb Raider Chronicles PC. Essentially, improved textures are among the most noticeable qualities, but the overall performance of the game is dependent on what graphics accelerator you have in your machine. As far as gameplay is concerned, TR5 is little more than a faithful follow-up to its predecessors. Although, a few refinements have been made to Lara’s bestiary of skills. You will now be able to use your skills as a tightrope walker and learn to use the new grappling hook to access what were previously inaccessible areas of the levels.

Once you begin the game proper, you will be taken through unseen sections of Lara’s previous four adventures in a journey of remembrance, hence the title, Tomb Raider Chronicles PC. Although a game of Lara’s past, no previous levels will be replayed, effectively making Chronicles a completely new game, at least in terms of design. The fifth instalment of the series has shown itself to be the comprehensive title to date, but it’s still Tomb Raider, and the people of the Lara cult will relish this one.
